Students in the Woodland Critters class participated in a Thanksgiving themed activity- The Mayflower Challenge! Students were instructed to build a boat with paper plates and foil to hold as many "pilgrims" as possible. Students used problem solving skills and each designed a unique boat with hopes that it would float while holding some wooden marbles without sinking. Students put their finished boats in a tub of water to test their designs!
The students absolutely loved this activity and made some impressive ships! Students learned a lot of how to proportion weight for balance and problem solving skills, getting creative and making adjustments if needed if their boat did not perform as expected the first time.
What a fun activity for students right before the Thanksgiving holiday!

A Winter Wonderland! Students had fun getting outside and playing in the snow this week for the first snowfall of the year! Students even built some snowmen on the playground and enjoyed time outside with friends!

Last Friday students got to go to a horse barn in New Prague to learn everything about horses, how to ride them, how to be around them, and what type of work goes into owning horses. They all had an amazing time!

Pairing different grade level students for reading time is beneficial for reading skills, peer modeling, and FUN interacting with other students! What a great way to encourage reading with students sharing and working together!

Students in Mrs. K's class had a special guest visit recently, Charles Kotasek who is a student at the MNCS High School. He came to speak with our students about the bass guitar and harmonics. His presentation included showing us his awesome bass guitar he actually made himself and also playing some well known musical classics! He even took requests from students! Students also had the chance to play the instrument. They learned more about the benefits of project based learning and a little bit of what it is like to be at the High School.
Thank you to Charles Kotasek for visiting! Our students enjoyed your presentation and talented bass playing!

MNCS Elementary students were asked by Mrs. K in science class- is there sound in space? Students learned more about how sound travels by participating in several fun experiments! Sound requires a medium to travel through and travels by making molecules vibrate. In deep space, the large empty areas between stars and planets, there are no molecules to vibrate. There is no sound!
